Privacy Policy for The Family Decoder

The Family Decoder (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is an iPhone app that helps you understand the people in your family through Human Design. This policy explains what information the app uses, where it goes, and the choices you have. We wrote it to be read, so we have kept it plain.

The short version

• +The information you enter about your family is stored on your phone, not on an account with us. The app has no sign-up and no login.
• +When you ask for guidance, we send an AI service only a person’s age and blueprint basics along with the situation you type. We never send their name or birth details.
• +Birth date, time and place are sent securely to a chart service only to calculate a blueprint.
• +We do not show ads, track you across other apps or websites, or sell your information.

Information you enter, and where it is kept

To build blueprints and give guidance, the app asks for:

• +Your name, and the names of the family members you add
• +Each person’s birth date, birth time and birth place
• +Whether the person is a child or an adult, and how they are related to you
• +The situations you describe when you ask for guidance, and any guidance you choose to save

All of this is stored in a single file on your device, protected by iOS file encryption. We do not keep a copy on our servers. If you delete the app or use the delete option described below, it is gone. Because the data lives on your phone, it may be included in your own device backups, which are governed by your Apple settings.

Information sent off your device

Some features cannot work without contacting another service. Here is each case.

• +Calculating a blueprint. Birth date, time and place are sent through our server to Bodygraph, a chart-calculation service, which returns the chart. Our server passes the details along and does not log or store them. Bodygraph’s own handling of the data is covered by its privacy policy.
• +Searching for a birth place. The place name you type is sent through our server to Bodygraph and to Open-Meteo, a public geocoding service, to find the place and its time zone.
• +Getting guidance. The app sends an AI language model, through an AI gateway, the situation you typed plus the person’s age, life stage and Human Design blueprint details. It does not send their name or birth details. Please do not type names or other identifying details into the situation box. Anything you type there is part of the request.
• +Today’s sky. The app asks our server for the day’s planetary positions. This request contains no personal information.

We do not use any of this information to build advertising profiles.

Subscriptions and purchases

Premium is an optional auto-renewing subscription. Purchases are handled by Apple, and we do not see or store your payment details. We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user identifier and your purchase and subscription status, and its handling of that data is covered by its own privacy policy. Deleting your data in the app does not cancel your subscription. To cancel, open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions.

Notifications

If you turn on the daily nudge, the app asks permission to send notifications. These are scheduled on your phone from your saved profiles. Your chart details are not sent to a notification service. You can turn nudges off in the app or in iOS Settings at any time.

Children

The app is for parents and other adults. It is not directed at children, and children should not use it on their own. The information you enter about your own child stays on your device and is used only as described above. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.

Your choices

• +Delete everything. In the app, go to Profile and choose Delete all my data. This removes every profile, saved insight and setting from your device.
• +Edit or remove one person. Open their profile in the app.
• +Turn off notifications. Use the setting in the app or in iOS Settings.

Because we do not hold your family’s information on our servers, there is nothing for us to export or erase on your behalf. If you have a question about your information, email us and we will help.

Where the app is available

The app is offered in the United States and Canada. Your information may be processed by the services named above in the United States and other countries where they operate.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app.
